MISSIONS/OUTREACH AT RBBC

Jesus gave us “Our Mission”

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing

them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
  Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus gave us “Our Strategy”

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  Acts 1:8

Missions is a process not an event and is God’s call on every believer.  This process involves serving God and loving others, as we go “across the street and around the world.”

 CAMBODIA

On May 20th a mission team of fourteen people under the able leadership of Robby Wilson and Daniel Huggins left Red Bank for an unknown destination in a remote region of Cambodia.  The mission was to provide clean water to a  village some two hours from Phnom Penh.  Water sources in Cambodia are contaminated with varying levels of arsenic, and the safest drinking water is rain water that is collected and stored in large sealed tanks. One of our missions was to construct such a tank, and pictures of that tank at various stages of construction follow.

We also tested existing water sources for arsenic and other bacterial contaminants.  Every test that we conducted revealed that all of the drinking water in this particular village was contaminated with arsenic, and samples from each of the twenty or more wells were taken to a laboratory to determine the presence of other bacteria.

We also taught basic hygiene to the children in the schools, such as how to wash your hands, and when the washing of hands was most appropriate.  A puppet ministry and video productions helped us explain basic hygiene concepts to children.  As always there was time for fun and games with the children.

When the rains came in the afternoon we bathed, but the Cambodians with whom we worked took the occasion to play “mud soccer”.

We returned home on June 2nd, utterly exhausted physically, but filled to the brim spiritually.

We will be returning next year to this same village, but this time with doctors and nurses in an effort to meet the physical needs of the villagers.  Our trip next year – April 30th to May 9th (approx.).

HONDURAS MEDICAL AND DENTAL

We are in our 22nd year of a partnership with Honduras, to supply the people of that country with free medical and dental services.  This year a team of 32 people, led by Team Captain Mike Carder, traveled to San Isidro, Honduras.

Every day began with “quiet time." (click on images below to enlarge)

Shortly thereafter lines started to form for registration.

The first stop after registration was church.  As many as five to six church services each day were full to overflowing, and the crowds heard the gospel message preached in their own language by Pastors from our Hispanic congregation.

From church, the patients proceeded to the medical and dental clinics where they received the treatment for which they had come, some from as far away as three hours.

The last stop in the process was the filling of their prescriptions.

The Lord was good to do what only He can do with 85 professions of faith and 80 rededications during the four days in San Isidro.  Over 1275 patients were treated in our medical clinic, with several of the patients receiving needed surgical procedures.  Our six dentists saw over 600 patients and some 7,000 prescriptions were filled.  Praise the Lord for all that was accomplished.

We will go again.  The trip next year will be from June 11 to June 18, 2011.  Mark your calendars and make plans to participate in this mission opportunity.
